One glance at the photographs in this book and I knew that "raw foods" did not mean settling for cardboard fare. Thank heavens, because since the age of 12, I've suffered from PCOS, a condition that makes me insulin-resistant. Carbs -- especially those from sugar and corn sweeteners -- cause my blood sugar levels to shoot up. This makes me prone to weight gain, while simultaneously making it difficult to lose weight. Fortunately, Rose's recipes, from dinner to desert, provide the three things I needed: practical, delicious and healthy.

Rose teaches you that you don't have to go out of your way or break your budget to be healthy; you just need to integrate some changes into your normal diet. Unlike other health books, this one never calls for extremely exotic or hard-to-find ingredients. You can find most of the ingredients in your regular grocery store, although some might require a trip to your local health store (or an Amazon order) -- but even for these ingredients, the recipe usually lists a more common substitute ingredient.

I like that none of the recipes call for sugar, instead substituting low-glycemic sweeteners like honey. This raw recipes never make me feel bloated, sick or lethargic after these dishes, unlike many traditional foods (anything with grease or flour). Biscuits in particular make me sick, but bread-inspired raw recipes in this book (like raw scones), help me satisfy my bread wants.

This lovely little book, with its spiral-binding, is extremely user- and kitchen-friendly. Recipes are organized into sections, with the book's 150+ dishes scattered evenly throughout the chapters (see list below).

I loved that it has lined sections for people (like me) who like to make notes about how a recipe turned out, how to it, where I can buy an ingredient, and so on.

I highly recommend purchasing this book with its companion book, the nutrition/lifestyle guide "Better Living Through Living Foods" by Dr. Rose, which provides practical advice on raw foods, detailed scientific information on the benefits of a raw food diet, along with commentaries from 15+ raw food experts. The two books integrate seamlessly into each other (although each book stands on its own perfectly well).

I have this book and I love it. Dr. Rose makes it easy to navigate the raw foods world with her recipes. Raw is not boring or tasteless. I am a foodie by nature and I really enjoy making these healthy recipes. Her kale chips are great! I will recommend Dr. LJ Rose's books to my friends who are looking to get into a healthier lifestyle/way of eating. Try her other book that goes with this recipe book "Raw Fusion. Raw Fusion-Better Living Through Living Foods by Linda Joy Rose, PhD. I came across this little gem through some web surfing. After reading the reviews, I had to snatch it up! Raw Eating has peaked my interest in the past couple of months. Although I love to cook, I think incorporating as many Raw foods into our diets has absolute maximum health benefits. The author includes basic set-up for a Raw kitchen including foods and kitchen gadgets, as well as cooking techniques to get a Raw Foodie started--which was exactly what I was looking for. I feel like any Raw Food question I possibly had was answered. Although I love to cook, I still feel like a chef when I'm making raw yummies. Have you ever tried making your own almond milk from raw almonds? It's super easy and the process is also really fun! How about raw desserts? I've only made a few but let me tell you, they were some of the best deserts I've ever had. Eating more raw foods gives me so much energy. I also notice my skin glowing and my sleeping habits improving after incorporating juicing and raw smoothies into my diet. But let's all be honest here--juicing and smoothies can get boring after awhile--especially for someone like me that loves to pull out a food processor, a spatula, a spoon, a grater, a peeler and a chef's knife and create something fabulous out of basic ingredients. This book provides the tools and ideas to get you started on your Raw journey or perhaps move farther along in a journey you may have already started. Good luck!
